WebMCP 5 · WebMCP in production

An 8-lesson course teaches about using WebMCP in production.

WebMCP in Production is an eight-lesson course about preparing a website to work with artificial intelligence agents. It follows the same action through three paths: the screen a person uses, WebMCP within the page, and an MCP server. The aim is to keep one rule for all three paths and use tests to check that they continue to respond in the same way. The course also treats WebMCP as a technology still in draft, whose API may change.

For people using the website, this could let someone keep using the form while an agent performs the same action through the page or a server. The course teaches how to record calls, errors, refusals, and cancellations without storing personal data. It also shows how to test tools when the code or specification changes, approve new tools, and quickly turn them off without changing the form.

The course starts with layered architecture and covers the three surfaces, records, and a frozen test suite. It then introduces neighboring protocols and ways to track changes in the specification, Chrome Status, and the MCP changelog. The final project brings together the page, server, tests, records, and approved catalog, and generates a dated report with seven checks. The source lists Node 20 or newer, git, and disk space for Playwright's Chromium as prerequisites.
