WebMCP 4 · Security and trust between a website and an agent
An 8-lesson course covers security and trust in interactions between a website and an agent.
WebMCP 4 · Security and trust between sites and agents is an eight-lesson course about the risks of letting agents interact with websites. It starts from an important limit: there is no guaranteed solution to prompt injection, attacks that try to make an agent follow malicious instructions. The course shows controls for limiting what an agent can see and do, as well as protecting the website’s server.
For people using a website with agents, these controls help clarify when an action needs human confirmation and which page data should be treated as instructions. The lessons also show how to limit which pages and embedded frames can access a site’s tools, and how to check the protections on an MCP server, which connects tools to agents. The aim is to recognize risks and check defenses with local examples.
The course is for people who already work with tools available to agents or manage a website or MCP server. Each lesson ends with a command and a result to check. As you begin, note that the examples run on your own machine and that the audit should be repeated when the specification or dependencies change. The course also introduces Web Bot Auth as a proposal still in draft, not as a security guarantee.
