WebMCP 2 · WebMCP on your website (8 lessons)
An eight-lesson course about using WebMCP on your website.
WebMCP is a way for a webpage to offer tools to an agent running in the browser. In this eight-lesson course, learners discover how to register these tools with document.modelContext so an agent can list and use them. WebMCP is still a draft, with origin trials in Chrome and Edge, so the course teaches learners to check the status of the specification and prepare a webpage without depending on an API that is not available to everyone.
For people using a site, the change is that an agent can perform tasks through tools registered on the webpage itself. People can still use the site's usual path. The course teaches learners to mark which tools only read information and which may have consequences. When an action has an effect, it should wait for the person to click “Confirm.” The course also shows how to test a webpage without WebMCP, with a polyfill, or with the native API.
To get started, learners need to know how to edit HTML and JavaScript and run terminal commands. They also need Node 20 or later, git, and space for the Playwright Chromium browser. The lessons cover registering and removing tools, canceling actions, forms, and migrating an existing site. The course recommends testing in all three modes: without the API, with a polyfill, and with native WebMCP. This helps check that the tools work and that the site keeps working without them.
