popguia: an agent installs and configures popups to guide visitors

It supports quizzes, recommendations and step-by-step sign-ups; it is open source MIT and free.

popguia is an open source project under the MIT license, designed to create interactive popups on websites. Instead of asking for an email right away, a popup can ask questions, share useful information, and suggest a product, course, or other content. The idea is for a coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor to install and configure these visitor journeys on a site. The project is free, but its code has yet to be written; for now, the research and plan are available.

For site visitors, the idea is to replace a direct signup request with a step-by-step experience, such as a quiz, a recommendation, or a newsletter. For site owners, the plan calls for keeping journeys and experiments in files inside the site’s own repository, where they can be reviewed and versioned. It also proposes comparing versions and tracking results with analytics tools the owner already has set up.

To get started now, you can read the research and plan in the popguia repository. The installation and journey-building commands described in the plan are still only proposals: the packages have not been published and the code is not ready. Anyone interested should keep in mind that practical use depends on future development.
