Ata: meeting notes with local transcription and summaries
An open-source tool to transcribe, summarize and search meeting notes in pt-BR, EN and ES, with live mode and MCP.
Ata is an open-source tool from INEMA that records meetings on two tracks: the sound coming from the call and the microphone audio. It transcribes them on your own machine in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, and organizes the speech by person. It also creates meeting notes with a summary, decisions, and action items, and lets you search meeting information.
For people who attend meetings, it brings recording, transcription, and organizing decisions into one workflow. Search can find passages by words or meaning, and the next meeting’s agenda can include pending actions and earlier decisions. Live mode shows speech as the meeting happens. The project also offers MCP integration so agents and assistants can work with the notes. Processing stays on your machine by default; using Claude or Codex through a subscription is optional and sends only text.
To get started, install the tool and set the language and summary option. On Linux, recording uses PipeWire; transcription can run on a GPU or CPU, depending on the installed engine. You can also try a demo meeting before recording a real conversation. Note that voice recognition is optional and off by default because voice is biometric data. The version described is 0.1.0.
