SlopMonster: a 0 to 5 score for text that smells like AI
A linter that flags machine clichés and cleans the text before publishing.
SlopMonster is a tool that gives texts a score from 0 to 5 and points out common signs of AI writing, such as certain words and sentence patterns. Its scorer is written in Python and can also prevent a project from publishing text below 5/5. It also offers an optional cleanup: a model from a different family revises the draft to reduce these signs.
For people who write or publish, the tool shows which passages may sound artificial and helps make the text simpler and more varied. Cleanup can change the text, so SlopMonster recommends scoring it again before publishing. It also flags numbers next to references to people to help detect invented proof; real numbers can be allowed for review.
To get started, you need Python 3 and a clone of the SlopMonster repository. Scoring works without installing dependencies. Automatic cleanup is optional and uses the codex or claude CLI; without either, the script shows a prompt to copy into a chat. One important limit: the catalog of signs is only in English. Portuguese texts receive 5/5 because the scorer cannot read the language, not because they have been checked for signs of AI writing.
